Newspaper Co-Op helps form new national Job Network
KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa. - The PAGE Co-op announced in September that it is helping found a new national employment classified network that could provide as many as six million employment ads monthly.
PAGE is taking an equity ownership in the new The Job Network, LLC. Other partners in the network will be TownNews.com and Redmatch North America. TownNews.com, based in Moline, Ill., services more than 1,500 online newspapers. Redmatch North America, a premier software development company, specializes in recruitment and real-time intelligent job matching technology and solutions.
Wally Lage, PAGE president, said: “We feel there is going to be significant participation by PAGE members in moving their employment advertising to The Job Network. Individual newspapers now have a unique opportunity to protect the classified franchise.”
TownNews.com and Redmatch currently operate a joint venture, TheJobNetwork.com. This joint venture will be folded into the new The Job Network LLC.
PAGE surveyed a sampling of its newspapers and estimated that member papers carry an average of nearly 4,200 classified line employment ads and nearly 750 classified display employment display ads monthly. The existing TheJobNetwork, as of the end of June, held more than 500,000 resumes and candidate profiles in its data base, nearly 62,000 active jobs posted, almost 1 million job searches and delivered more than 12.5 million page views.
“PAGE Co-op is one of the most respected institutions in the newspaper industry,” said Marc Wilson, CEO of TownNews.com. “We are extremely pleased to partner with PAGE and its members.”
Wilson said the combination of the PAGE membership and existing The Job Network customers will provide comprehensive nationwide distribution of employment advertisements for employers recruiting employees.
“The Redmatch job-matching technology is the best in the world,” Wilson continued. “The combination of this technology and the network distribution will give newspapers great recruitment products to offer to their customers.”
“With the addition of The PAGE member newspapers, TheJobNetwork becomes one of the leading Internet marketplaces for candidates and employers alike,” said David Marcus CEO of Redmatch North America. Marcus added that the network “provides member newspapers with national scope as well as regional and local branding and exposure.”
PAGE (Publishers Associated to Gain Economy) is a member-owned purchasing cooperative including 550 daily newspapers with a total circulation of more than 11.8 million. It is based in King of Prussia, Pa.
TownNews.com, based in Moline, Ill., is 83 percent owned by Lee Enterprises, Incorporated (NYSE: LEE), one of the premier newspaper groups in the nation.
Redmatch North America, based in Cleveland, Ohio, is a privately held software development company that specializes in employment solutions.
