Video drives site traffic

Published: Wednesday, July 9, 2008 9:36 AM CDT
In June 2008, Cisco Systems Inc., a supplier of online networking equipment and network management, projected that online video will account for 30% of data transfers by the end of 2008. That’s a 25% increase for the medium since 2005.

In a Wall Street Journal article, Bobby White wrote that Cisco is predicting online video data transfers to be at 50% by 2012, making online video “the biggest driver of global data communications.”

Posting of videos is supported on TownNews.com sites. Videos can be uploaded to your site as .flv files via file transfer protocol (FTP) or by using the Importer administrative interface, just like stories and photos.

For an example, visit The Queens Courier of Bayside, N.Y. at www.queenscourier.com/multimedia.com/video.

Large-file videos require high volumes of data to be downloaded by the end user, thus increasing your bandwidth. For this reason, we advise that you monitor bandwidth usage. Bandwidth charges will apply once your site hits 50 GB of bandwidth.
